Some Formspring for Friday

I thought I’d share some formspring questions I’ve been asked recently.

What is your perfect sandwich? (please list toppings!) by MsColaBee
Turkey and Avocado Sandwich that includes mayo, mustard, pepperchinis, lettuce, onions, provolone cheese and a little bit of oil and vinegar. My other perfect sandwich includes french roll, chicken, pesto, fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and toasted. Plus I like soup with my sandwiches. :)

What’s one question you haven’t been asked yet, that you wish someone would ask? What is your answer to said question? by hamsterbee
What’s my favorite dog breed? I love Labrador Retrievers. I would love to have the “rainbow” with yellow, black and chocolate one day. However, no matter what we have to wait until we get a house with a backyard to get a lab. I can’t wait until that day though. Dogs make me so happy! Hopefully we can get a small dog sooner though.

What is the coolest thing you’ve ever done? by twowishes
I lived and studied in London for a year. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done and I got to experience so many amazing and cool things while I was there.

What is your daily make-up routine? by kimmichelle
Tinted moisturizer, some blush, little bit of eyeshadow and some mascara. If I’m going out then I’ll add in eye liner and more eye shadow. For the most part I’m pretty basic. Usually I wear chapstick since Mark doesn’t like lip gloss. He thinks it’s sticky and smells weird. If I’m at work, it’s a special date or out without him I’ll wear gloss though. :)

Happy Friday!

Etsy Favorite: dear colleen

I came across the dear colleen Etsy shop a few months ago when I was looking for prints to help my mom decorate her kitchen.  I instantly fell in love with the typography, clever graphics, witty words and fun colors.  I’d love to frame a few of her prints for my home.

Mac & Cheese Cravings

Earlier this week I got the sudden craving for macaroni and cheese.  No, not talking about the blue box of our childhoods, but some bubbling, baked homemade macaroni and cheese.

I’ve seen all sorts of Mac & Cheese recipes on the blogs (will share at the end), but I decided to go with my mom’s recipe.  My mom’s recipe isn’t scientific, it allows for variation on you own tastes for cheese, spice etc. but the basics are there.  Here is the recipe for my mom’s version with a few of my own adjustments added in-marked in italics.

Macaroni & Cheese by Mom

Cook 16 oz. penne or elbow macaroni according to directions.

Meanwhile:

Heat up 1/2 stick of butter in large pan until melted.
Mix in 3 T. flour until a thick paste.
Add 3 c. milk (Your choice- I used low fat) while continuously stirring until it makes a slightly thickened soup.
Add seasoning to taste: ground pepper (fresh is better)- 4 good grinds at least
salt (just a touch – there’s some in the cheese)
nutmeg (optional) just a small shake–Instead of nutmeg I added in some paprika and cayenne pepper
Add grated cheese: 8 oz. or so mozzarella (for melting fast, use fresh),  8 oz. cheddar (usually sharp, depending upon your taste) until the cheese is melted and your mixture is thickened and all cheese has melted.  This times we used mozzarella and cheddar but really you can use anything that melts easily.  In the past we’ve used gouda, jack pepper, havarti etc.

Add hot noodles, mix and then pour into a buttered (or “Pammed”) casserole dish.  If you like some crunch and texture add breadcrumbs on top.  (This time I used Italian bread crumbs and fried french onions since that is what I had in my pantry.  Next time I’d like to make my own bread crumbs when I take more time)

Put in oven for 20 minutes @ 350 degrees until top is nicely browned and sides are bubbling.

If you are making this ahead: Cover casserole w/ foil and place in refrigerator.  Put in oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Then uncover for 20 minutes & serve when golden brown & bubbly.

This completely satisfied my craving.  Next time I may be a little more healthy and add some broccoli.  Yes, I believe it’s more healthy when I add in some green vegetables.

Here are a few links to some other Mac & Cheese recipes that look good.  Combine all of them to create your very own version.

Pioneer Woman’s Fancy Macaroni- um this has bacon and caramelized onions…yes

Spicy Mac and Cheese by Annie’s Eats- Mac and Cheese with some extra spice and flavor sounds yum

Mushroom Herb Mac and Cheese by Annie’s Eats- Clearly other people have my same craving.  I actually went back to add this in today when I saw she had just posted this.  I am trying this one next.

30 Days-30 Ways with Macaroni & Cheese- Want to eat it for 30 days straight? This has recipes with all different types of cheese and a variety of fun recipes to try.

Do you like Macaroni and Cheese?  What meals have you been craving lately?

p.s. macaroni and cheese makes for delicious leftovers…

Are You LOST?

Have you been watching the last season of LOST?  We’ve watched almost since the beginning and in some ways it’s sad to see it come to an end.  I, like many fans have more questions than ever.

For fellow LOST fans here are a few things I’ve found that only another fan could appreciate.

This video is so funny. Amusing for any LOST fans, but especially those that are partial to Hurley.

Want to decorate your home with some vintage LOST?

Found via Happiness Is, these amazing pieces were created by Mattson Creative, where there are a few more posters I didn’t post.

When I saw Tara’s Two Wishes blog post a few weeks ago I was cracking up. Look at her clever recreation of the plane crash using some toys.

And lastly here is my link to all the scoop on LOST, a blog called Lost in the Vines. Usually I check it on Wednesdays to see the Steven Watt’s summary of the previous night’s episode along with all the theories, thoughts and comments based on that. Here is last week’s episode if you need a review.

That is my LOST scoop for today. Do you watch LOST? What do you think of the season so far?

If you don’t watch LOST, what are you watching on Tuesday nights?

Party Details to Smile About and Happy Monday!

How was your weekend?  I was busy, but had lots of fun catching up with friends and family.  My brother is currently a student at the college I went to, so we got to go back to visit him and pretend we were in college again.  While I don’t want to go back, I do miss the fun and seemingly carefree days.  Anyways…

I finally caught up on some blog reading over the weekend after being very behind and found few party details I loved. I saw this party on Hostess with Mostess and thought it was so cute.

How can Curious George and this colorful party not make you smile!?

Sweet Tooth blog featured a fun DIY cupcake bar.

This would be a great way to have a fun dessert display without spending the money on fancy cupcakes and treats because your guests will decorate them for you.

Create special invites for a tea party by painting with tea. Love the soft and thoughtful tone of these invitations. Want color? Use colored pencils instead.

This DIY fun was found on Sweetest Occasion, with DIY tutorial originally on Creature Comforts.

Happy Monday friends!  How was your weekend?  Were you out and about or relaxing?
